At Manila Cathedral

During our Manila-Pampanga Trip last month, we had time to visit one of the oldest places in the Philippines, the Intramuros. It is known as the "walled-city" built during the Spanish Colonial Period. We went there via taxi from Pasay and entered through the western gate. The first thing we saw is the fire department at the left and a bank at the right. Then there was a plaza and right across is the magnificent Manila Cathedral. We stopped at plaza in front of the cathedral and took some photos and entered the church to see what's inside. Here are some of the photos we took. More after the jump.

Some facts about the cathedral. This is actually the eighth structure built here. The previous churches were either burned or destroyed by an earthquake.

The first room to the right contains this mama Mary altar and the "La Pieta" sculture (below).

This is a replica of Michaelangelo's famous sculpture "La Pieta" showing the body of Jesus in the arms of his mother after his Crucifixion.

Touching Tales: How much is your Time?

With all the work and stress we have all day do we still give a little time for our family? Here's a story i got in tumblr and hope you'll get how important time is.

A woman came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find her 5-year old son waiting for her at the door.

SON: ‘Mummy, may I ask you a question?’

MUM: ‘Yeah sure, what it is?’ replied the woman.

SON: ‘Mummy, how much do you make an hour?’

MUM: ‘That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?’ the woman said angrily.

SON: ‘I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?’

MUM: ‘If you must know, I make $20 an hour.’

SON: ‘Oh,’ the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: “Mummy, may I please borrow $5?”

The mother was furious, ‘If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don’t work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.’

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door…

The woman sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the woman had calmed down, and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $5 and he really didn’t ask for money very often.The woman went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

Are you asleep, son?’ She asked.

‘No Mummy, I’m awake,’ replied the boy.

I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier’ said the woman. ‘It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $5 you asked for.’

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. ‘Oh, thank you Mummy!’ he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The woman saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his mother.

‘Why do you want more money if you already have some?’ the mother grumbled.

‘Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,’ the little boy replied.

‘Mummy, I have $20 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.’

The mother was crushed. She put her arms around her little son, and she begged for his forgiveness.

It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $20 worth of your time with someone you love ♥

In the middle of a busy street, a dog was seen taking care of another, a good friend who was hit.

With his leg trying to wake his friend, without knowing it, he was already dead, trying to push him off the road and if someone tries to help, just gave it to her without letting anyone near him.

Despite the traffic, he did not abandon his friend, trying to somehow help him .....

People passed, stopped to appreciate this impressive scene, saw the dog, just a mestizo, no dream, it was loyal companion and ...... SHARE THE IMAGE!

1st ZAMBOANGA SHORT FILM COMPETITION
Theme: “KULTURA DE ZAMBOANGA”

Competition is open to:

~ All independent filmmakers at least 16 years old and must not have joined any major film competition.
~ Filmmaker should be a Resident of the City or Province of Zamboanga with at least one year residency in Zamboanga City or Province of Zamboanga. (Proof of Residency must be presented)
~ Entry shall follow the theme: “Kultura de Zamboanga”
~ Any Digital Camera may be used (including cellphones)
~ The video should be at least Three (3) Minutes but not exceeding Ten (10) Minutes.
~ Use of copyrighted music is prohibited, unless allowed by the owner of the material.
~ Nudity, foul language, slur on religious belief, or any other form of offensive content shall likewise be prohibited.
~ Film may be in the native tongue or dialect must have readable English subtitles.
~ All entries should be submitted in DVD format.

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) shall include the finalists in its portfolio of Filipino films under its Sineng Pambansa Local Film Festival and shall have the right to the exhibition of the finalist in its CINEMATHEQUES nationwide.

Deadline for submission of entries will be 16 February 2012. Entries should be submitted to:

Lakbayan: How much of the Philippines I have visited

Just discovered this awesome site where you can track which part of the Philippines you have been. You can grade/score the different regions/places on how often you visited them. It has five levels: "never set foot here"; "just passing through"; "been here once to a few times"; "I often go here"; and "I live/have lived here". After scoring, they will produce a map with diffent shades of blue according to your input. The darker the shade, the more often you have been in the place. They will also give you a grade. Mine is C which means i am far behind from being a certified Filipino traveller. So here's my Lakbayan status as of January 2012.

Wanna share this inspiring photos of a couple who were always there for each other against all odds.

Her name is Katie Kirkpatrick, 21 yrs old. Next to her is her fiancé, Nick, 23. (Pic1)

This picture was taken prior to their wedding January 11th, 2005.
Katie has terminal cancer and spends hours in chemotherapy.

Even in pain and dealing with her organs shutting down, with the help of morphine,
Katie took care of every single part of the wedding planning.
Her dress had to be adjusted several times due to Katie 's constant weight loss. (Pic3)

An expected guest was her oxygen tank. Katie had to use it during the ceremony and reception.
The other couple in this picture is Nick's parents, very emotional with the wedding and to see their
son marrying the girl he fell in love when he was an adolescent. (Pic4)

Some are separated by complication in relationship and some may lose a partner by death. This couple has been tested by time and through the decades, they stand shoulder to shoulder against all odds with their faith, hope and everlasting love with each other. Every kiss is like first time and you can see in eyes how genuinely committed they are to each other. They have been blessed with such beautiful family who truly cares for them. Have you ever doubted God's existence? Here's a story that will explain the logic of his existence.

God Does Exist

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.

"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument.

The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.

The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."

"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"

"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."

"Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me."

"Exactly!" affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to Him for help. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

I'm no fashion addict but all these fashion blogs by the Zamboanga Bloggers makes me want to share some of photos from my vanity shelf. I am interested in fashion but only into photography and videography, not much for personal use :D. I can't afford those fancy clothes in the magazines that i read so i just mix and match what i have in my wardrobe. But if someone gave me hundred and thousands of bucks to spend, ill throw all my existing clothes, go to manila and shop at Topman, Zara, H&M, Aldo, etc and build my own walk-in closet. Had this look for our thanksgiving party

*It's so difficult to find red pants here in the city. A week before the party, I asked my sister in Cebu to look for one. She haven't found one either. Morning before the party i went to Sta. Cruz market and luckily there was this one pair that exactly what i was looking for. I rushed to the sastrera and asked to repair the pants to fit me. I got the pants just in time for me to prepare. It's my first time to wear colored pants and i like it :D All the effort was worth it ^^

The Chicken and the Eagle

During our trip in Manila, i met my dad's cousin, uncle Ojing. He's really an inspiring man. He's so smart and has so many stories to tell and words of wisdom to share. He has written a grammar book together with his wife, tita Twinny. For 4 days, they accomodated us warmly and we're so happy and thankful for their generosity.

They have two boys, Rovik and Orvik who are just as impressive as their parents. They study at home with their parents as their teachers for English, Math and Science, and also go to school (Victory Int'l School in BGC) for some subjects like PE and Values Education. These kids are very smart and they speak fluently in English and Tagalog. You may think home-schooled kids are loners or geeks but these two boys are intelligent yet very energetic, active, friendly and outgoing kids. Aside from doing good in their studies, they are also athletes playing football and swimming. The photo above shows Me, Papa and Ate with Orvik and Rovik after their football training.

Uncle showed us one of Rovik's projects, a school paper, all written, designed and printed by him. My mind was just blown away with the structure, organization of thought and advanced level of writing of this kid. Orvik shared an article about his experience in one of their football tournaments and it was a lot of fun to read. Rovik posted the write-ups in his own blog, too. I got to talk with Rovick about flash animation and techie stuff. He said he wants to study Computer Science in college. They boy knows what he wants in his young age.

You might wonder why this post is titled as it is. I'll proceed to that now :). As we were finding our way to the hotel in Pampanga, uncle Ojing, who was driving the van, and Papa were talking about the death of uncle's dad. He shared how his dad was so smart and can do many things in life but chose to be with his chickens (for sabong, perhaps). Rovik even called him Lolo Chicken because of his fondness for sabong (cock-fighting). Uncle, then, shared this story about the eagle and the chickens.~

A long time ago in a remote valley, there lived a farmer. One day he got tired of the daily routine of running the farm and decided to climb the cliffs that brooded above the valley to see what lay beyond.

He climbed all day until he reached a ledge just below the top of the cliff; there, to his amazement was a nest, full of eggs.

Immediately he knew they were eagle's eggs and, even though he knew it was profoundly un-ecological and almost certainly illegal, he carefully took one and stowed it in his pack; then seeing the sun was low in the sky, he realized it was too late in the day to make the top and slowly began to make his way down the cliff to his farm.

When he got home he put the egg in with the few chickens he kept in the yard. The mother hen was the proudest chicken you ever saw, sitting atop this magnificent egg; and the cockerel couldn't have been prouder.

Sure enough, some weeks later, from the egg emerged a fine, healthy eaglet. And as is in the gentle nature of chickens, they didn't balk at the stranger in their midst and raised the majestic bird as one of their own.

So it was that the eagle grew up with its brother and sister chicks. It learned to do all the things chickens do: it clucked and cackled, scratching in the dirt for gritsand worms, flapping its wings furiously, flying just a few feet in the air before crashing down to earth in a pile of dust and feathers.

It believed resolutely and absolutely it was a chicken.

One day, late in its life, the eagle-who-thought-he-was-a-chicken happened to look up at the sky. High overhead, soaring majestically and effortlessly on the thermals with scarcely a single beat of its powerful golden wings, was an eagle!

"What's that?!", cried the old eagle in awe. "It's magnificent! So much power and grace! It's beautiful!"

"That's an eagle", replied a nearby chicken, "That's the King of the Birds. It's a bird of the air... not for the likes of us. We're only chickens, we're birds of the earth".

With that, they all cast their eyes downwards once more and continued digging in the dirt.

And so it was that the eagle lived and died a chicken... because that's all it believed itself to be.

~So there you have it. Uncle shared this story which he compares to his father who had the talent but settled with mediocrity due to the influence of the people who surrounded him. It's a simple story but this is the reality. We are all meant to be great but if we let people dictate who we are and what we will be, we won't go far in life.

We must believe in our capabilities and always do our best in everything we do to be successful in life. Let no one hinder us from making it big and achieving our dreams and aspiration. God already gave us the things we need and it's up for us on how to use them.~

Last december we were bombarded with events, especially weddings. With so much SDE's to edit, I have to push through and create something that is still unique for every wedding. The key is preparation. Before hell weeks, we already planned certain themes and ideas that will guide me in the editing. Project Red Party: Photo Booth

FILIPINO TIME - Not a good thing for party planners. You always want to follow a timeline for your party because every second counts. It is expected that the actual programme starts one to two hours late than the time stated in the invites. You may expect your guests to come late but there are diligent guest, too, that come on time or earlier. Since the programme has not yet started, what will the guests do while waiting? You don't want them to get bored. So what you can do is provide them activities to do during this time period.

First, they can sign the guest book or better yet a fun guest frame where they can do more things than just writing their name. Check out the guest frame i did for the party here. Next, make a game for the guests to find their seats using escort cards. Check out 10 great escort cards ideas for your party here . You can also provide cocktails or something to nibble and hire a band to entertain your guests while waiting. And of course, to make the most of the spare time, set up a fun photobooth.

Photo Booths are trending party must-haves nowadays. It has become the alternative for little figurine tokens given during wedding receptions. It is more personalized and you can have the printed photo in a matter of seconds or minutes. Many photographers package this in their services or you can rent a photobooth machine in photo shops. It may cost 5,000 to 8,000 pesos depending on the number of prints or hours. But, you can also set up your own photobooth as long as you have the necessary skills. Here are things that you must consider in setting up a photo booth.

1. Backdrop. Have a good backgorund for your photo booth. This may range from simple tarps to elaborate themed sets. If you dont have a budget, you can use a nice fabric with patterns. I prefer woven patterns than printed ones. If you want a customized design, you can print your design in tarpaulins for 25-50 pesos per square foot. You can also make a 3-dimensional set by adding props (e.g. sofas, tables, sculptures, etc) coherent to the theme or motif of your party. You don't want you guests to blend with the background, right? So, for me, the simplier the better. Here are some backdrop ideas for your event.

2. Lighting. Provide good lighting for your booth but make sure you don't disrupt the overall lighting and ambience of the venue. You can turn off your lights during the program. Good lighting will prevent harsh shadows in face and glares in tarps. You can use flourescent flood lights or LED lights provided by the sound and light suppliers. Just make sure the backdrop is clear but the subject must pop out from it.

3. Props. This puts "fun" in fun booth. You can provide props like hats, shades, and frames. Let your guest do crazy poses be creative in using their props. Don't let them rush in thinking for a pose but don't let them take too much time in the booth. There are people waiting in line, too. For our party, we prepared chalkboards, moustaches and bowties for props.

4. Camera. Professional photographers use DSLR cameras but Point-and-shoot cameras and even webcams may also be used as long as the image resolution is high. You can use a USB cord so the photo is saved directly in the computer. But you can also manually save the files from the memory card. Laptops usually have a memory card reader.

5. Laptop. Desktops are too bulky and hard to transport. Use a laptop equipped with right softwares and specs like memory card reader and USB ports.

6. Template. The design and layout makes your photo souvenir unique from other photos. Your layout indicates when, where, and what event the photo souvenir was taken. It has a photo of the celebrant(s) taken from their pre-shoot. It also has 2 to 3 empty frames where the photo will be placed. Graphics may also be included as long as it's relevant to the theme of the party.

7. Software. We use photoshop and its feature actions to automate the layout process. Click here to learn how to make photoshop actions. After laying out the photos in one layout, we immediately queue the file to the printer. There are also photobooth softwares that programs it all for you - from taking pictures to layout to printing. However, it may cost you a little money.

8. Printer. We use the handy Canon Selphy printer to print our photos. Its a small printer that lets you print high quality postcard size (4R) photos. However, it may take a minute or more to print one photo. There are lots of photo printer out there that prints in a matter of seconds.

9. Presentation. After printing, you can place your prints in frames or envelopes. You can also make a claiming station where guests can also see the photos of the other guests. We clipped the prints in abaca rope using wooden pegs along side the old photos of our parents. You can decorate the area according to the theme and leave your Thank You message for the guests.

10. Facebook. Lastly, post the photos online and tag your guests. Upload it in high resolution so they can download it and reprint it afterwards. Let your party be a memorable and talked about one with these photos.

Manila Trip Day 1: Ohana

January 6-11, 2012. This served as my late christmas vacay since my december was filled with tons of work. Me, my sister, my parents and some relatives across mindanao headed north to attend the wedding of our uncle kuyo. I made their simple wedding invitations last christmas as you can see here.

Day 1. [01.06.12]
Me and my parents took the first flight to Manila via Cebu Pac. My sister was already waiting at the airport. Her flight was earlier coming from Cebu where she works as a transcriptionist. Uncle Roger, Papa's cousin, welcomed us and brought us to their condo unit at the Ohana Place, Alabang Zapote Rd, Las Piñas City. Alabang is known as a class A area. Ohana is located near SM Southmall. The place was really beautiful with a clubhouse, basketball court, playground and pool at the middle. If you watch Lilo and Stitch, you'll know what Ohana means. We got to meet Uncle Roger's wife, Tita Flor and their two boys, Rovick and Orvick. The young boys are home schooled, so they are very smart yet athletic, friendly boys.

We went back to the Airport and fetched our relatives from Iligan and Zamboanga who took the 2nd flight. We then proceed to the Staff House of Pagadian LGU at the Lopez Court, Roxas Blvd, Pasay City. I always stay there when I'm in Manila, and it's for free! Thanks to Sir Fred Tabasa for accomodating us! Then, we had chinese food for lunch at Toho Restaurant at Las Piñas. Afterwards, we went back to Ohana and had more good eats at the pool side. Me, Ate and Mama went picture taking.

In the evening, we went to the Mall of Asia and had dinner at one of the restaurants at the seaside area. I have been in MOA many times already but its my first time in that area. It already has a huge ferris wheel that reminds me of the one in London. It's so huge and it turns so slow. It may take 20-30 minutes to make a full turn, i guess. The railing of the ferris wheel has colorful LED lights that looks spectacular. While waiting for the food, Ate and I went strolling in the area which looks like an open carnival full of rides, food stalls and fun booths. We don't have the budget and time so Ate and I just took photos.

There were street performers like the robotic guy who will dance if you drop money in his box and the Jabbawockeez-like duo who danced to the tune of OPM love songs. There was also a zipline, carousel, kids inside inflated balls floating in a pool, scooters for rent, mini rides and more. The place is very festive with the glittering lights of the huge Christmas Tree and christmas lights all over the place. We went back to the restaurant just in time for eating. With our tummies filled, we went back to the staff house and had a good night's rest in preparation for the next day's big event.

Alfredo and Christine Wedding Invites

I'm so excited to start the year with my first travel. Me, my parents, my ate and some relatives will be heading up north to celebrate my uncle's wedding. He is Alfredo Denzo, Jr, the half-brother of my father, who i met when im in college already. He grew up in Davao and works in Dubai as an IT specialist. His soon to be wife is Christine from Pampanga where the wedding is set. We will still get to know her when we'll get there.

My uncle is still young so i call him Kuya Kuyo (his nickname). He saw the photos of the invitations that I made for my dad's party, so asked me to do his wedding invitations. His color motif is Honeysuckle Pink, best known as the 2011 PANTONE Color of the Year. They wanted something simple and elegant with traditional wedding elements such as doves and flowers. Here's a moodboard of the wedding invitation I did.

After a lot of revisions and proof-reading here's the final look of the wedding invitation. The colors may differ from the photo. I hope they like it :D More photos after the jump!

Touching Tales: Narcissus and the Lake

The alchemist picked up a book that someone in the caravan had brought. Leafing through the pages, he found a story about Narcissus.

The alchemist knew the legend of Narcissus, a youth who knelt daily beside a lake to contemplate his own beauty. He was so fascinated by himself that, one morning, he fell into the lake and drowned. At the spot where he fell, a flower was born, which was called the narcissus.

But this was not how Oscar Wilde, the author of the book, ended the story.

He said that when Narcissus died, the goddesses of the forest appeared and found the lake, which had been fresh water, transformed into a lake of salty tears.

“Why do you weep?” the goddesses asked.

“I weep for Narcissus,” the lake replied.

“Ah, it is no surprise that you weep for Narcissus,” they said, “for though we always pursued him in the forest, you alone could contemplate his beauty close at hand.”

“But…was Narcissus beautiful?” the lake asked.

“Who better than you to know that?” the goddesses said in wonder. “After all, it was by your banks that he knelt each day to contemplate himself!”

The lake was silent for some time. Finally, it said:

“I weep for Narcissus, but I never noticed that Narcissus was beautiful.
“I weep because, each time he knelt beside my banks, I could see, in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected.”

“What a lovely story,” the alchemist thought.

I really enjoyed this on-the-spot prenup shoot. After shooting in one of our locations we honestly don't know where to shoot next. I have been longing to have a conceptual prenup shoot at the carnival where the couple is just having fun like kids.

I remember this place in Guiwan where the carnival is set during Fiesta Pilar on October. Since it's already December, the rides were transfered at ADZU for the Ateneo Fiesta. This was the only ride left there and it wasn't even fully assembled. 'Twas just perfect! There were lots of kids playing around which made the mood very joyful.

The post processing is inspired by the old carnival days which also brings nostalgia from our childhood days. We used the photos for their guestbook, too. Check the layout here.

Just wanna write this post before 2011 will come to an end. For me 2011 is a year of oxymorons. To get what i mean here are some phrases that describes my year:

2011 is a year of adventures and adversities. This year I got to live as a working person and not as a student anymore. I travelled and got to work outside the city and had lots of fun. I had my funnest moments with my family but i also got distanced from them due to some decisions i made this year. I focused a lot in my professional growth and got to learn so much things in the process. I experienced new things like being a coordinator/event stylist, having my worst meltdown, winning a national competition, witnessing a unique cultural event, back-to-back-to-back-to-back events, my first weight loss and so much more.

It is a year of extremes where i started the year with betrayal, learning to confess, accept responsibilies, facing consequences and ended up with regaining trust. It is a year of extreme world events such as the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, Haiti and New Zealand Earthquakes, Extreme Supermooon, Typhoon Sendong, World Revolutions (Egypt, Libya, etc), and more. It's as if the world is turning back against us.

It is a year where I have to make decisions on my own and be who I wanted to be. I have freedom and so many choices yet I have to go where my heart tells me where to go. I want to improve my skills and share it to people. I have felt such a range of emotions that only exprience and real life can give me. I felt more human but at the same time i still have that sense of wonder of what more can life give me. However, there are tons of factors to consider in every decision. I can't answer my own questions but only time can tell. It has been a crazily sane year and im looking forward to a great and better 2012. Cheers!

My mother grew up in Basilan; she was among the poorest of the poor. They were 11 in the family and she told me na pangarap niya noon ay makakain ng buong itlog because before they would divide one egg among the family. So she strived to get an education. She was a scholar and to earn extra money, she would volunteer to do homework of her classmates in exchange for a share of their baon. I saw my mom’s perseverance. Now that she’s successful, she wants to send my cousins and other relatives to school. Education can really change your life.

Project Red Party: Guest Frame

This is one of the highlights of my setup for the party, the Guest Frame area. Traditionally, guests sign up in a guestbook located at entrance of the reception. Now, there are lots of creative ways to welcome your guests. A guest frame is a popular alternative for guest book. It is a frame with a little photo of the couple, some text, and a big space where guests can leave their messages or wishes.

Today, we are not limited to guest books and frames, we can spice up the start of the wedding reception with some nice activities for the guests. Here in the Philippines, we always expect people to come an hour late during parties and some will come just in time or earlier. So while waiting for the other guests, you can provide cocktails and make a band to play nice music. You can also setup a photobooth and give them more activities in the guest area.

For my party, I decided to make a DIY Guest Tree. It is an unfinished artwork where every guest can help finish it. The frame has an image of a tree without leaves. A palette with paints of different colors is provided beside the frame. Using the paint, guests will have to press their thumbprints on to the artwork. Their fingerprint will serve as a leaf and every guest will contribute their piece of leaf until the whole tree is filled. They should also sign below the fingerprint or give their wishes around the tree. It is a work in progress and it will only be completed by the guests until the end of the event.

I bought a nice wooden frame painted in gold. My cousin made the design of the tree and i hand-painted it on to the paper. The paper we used is a beige cartolina-sized special paper with a nice texture. The text and pattern for the ground is digitally printed. I cut it into shape and pasted it on the paper before painting the tree. I also made an infographic instruction so guest will know what to do. So here is the final look of the "Guest tree".

Finally, I decorated the guest frame area with lots of vintage stuff like pocket books, little clocks, paper cars and my dad's collection of nozzles and fireman snowglobe. We also clipped old photos with wooden pegs in abaca rope. The little posts were borrowed from our friend, Gerry DCarpio, who is also an event coordinator/stylist. We hand made the paper vintage cars using the templates we found in the internet. There is also a candy jar with peppermint candies we bought in La Tienda. A Check out more photos below.

He and his girlfriend came home for a month and decided to have a civil wedding while they are still here. He called me up and asked us to take their photos for their prenup and wedding. An awesome starter for the day. When we feel lost, always turn to God and let Him be your guide. His Words are always righteous and He has already given us our destination. Unlike my other series which is filled with positive and heart-warming stories, TANGINA THIS! is let's me see the uglier side of reality. Here are my rants, frustrations, and dismay on the things that just make me unhappy. I got the title from a series of Youtube videos.

This video left me struck, teary and speechless. I feel sad for the kids in the short-scale mining industry. They are exposing themselves in danger and they are risking their health in doing strenous things like this. Instead of playing and studying, they are laboring just to have money to sustain their living. What made me more sad is the old woman who is dedicated to do the hard work just to earn...

Vintage Typography

My dad asked me to design this print ad inving his fellow Tradeans to join this years Alumni Homecoming. It will be published in local newspaper this week. The design is inspired by vintage posters which uses a variety of fonts and shapes. I used a lovely textured background and four colours associated with their school (well, except for the blue, hehe). I love the combination of the yellow and maroon here. Project Red Party: The Centerpieces

Here's another essential part of event styling, the Centerpiece. My inspiration for the centerpiece are the beautiful skylines of New York. Since the tables of the reception are small, we have to create a small but elegant centerpiece without too much expense. It's all DIY here :D Here is the final look of the skyline silhouette centerpiece.

The centerpiece is made of black special board paper and we cut out the windows and shape of the buildings. A candle illuminates inside so the windows glow like the buildings at night. We also embellished the inside of the buildings with crystal stickers so when you peep inside you can see the sparkling details. Aside from the skyline cutout, we also made card numbers. It's made of white specialty board paper. I made the design in photoshop inspired by musical symbols and floral patterns. We printed it in the back side of the board paper and carefully cut them out. To put some color, we used the excess doodle pattern from the invitations. We placed them inside but not directly on the backside of the cut-out so there will be depth. You can slightly see the shadow of the cutout in the pattern when light hits it. Here's how our card numbers look like.

I love how the light casts through the window on the table! In addition, I also borrowed wooden decorative furnishings and little lamp post candle holders by Gerry DCarpio of GDC Events. Thanks so much Sir Gerry! :D You can also see the specially packaged sparklers that was used during the program. Finally, we added more candles and glasses, and sprinkled the table with sweet delights.

Project Red Party: The Invites

Last month, i had my first opportunity to become an event planner for our thanksgiving party. I'll share little by little every detail of the party and share my thoughts and tips in a series of post called Project Red Party. I posted the moodboard that i created here which involves firetrucks, skylines and things related to music. The party is a double celebration since its my dad's 50th birthday and their 25th (Silver) Wedding Anniversary. They both work at the Fire Department where my dad is the city fire marshal and my mom is a government employee. Thus, the color motif that I chose is red, silver and black.

The first thing we planned out are the essentials of the party: the date, time, venue, and theme. After finalizing them, I started to create the moodboard and eventually the invites. I wanted to create a simple, fun-looking, hip yet elegant looking invitation without much cost. So here's the final look of the invitation. :)

The inspiration for the design is fusion of NYFD (New York Fire Department) and Jazz. We printed it in poster paper and embellished it with crystal stickers to give it a sparkling finish. The envelope is a 6-inch wide special scented envelope with a nice pearly texture. Then to give it a color, i printed a doodle-ish pattern in red paper and covered the inner side of the flap. On the other side of the envelope, we labelled it with the name of the recepient with some musical symbols. And finally, we sealed the invitation with a specially designed emblem of the event which is inspired by the logo of the fire department.

I'm personally satisfied with the design of my first-ever DIY invitation and my parents liked it too. Each invite roughly cost 15 pesos only. With a creative design and resourcefulness, you can really make a cool, cheap but expensive looking invite for your party. This is one of the most liked and top post of the day, a drawing of an artist with a signboard expressing his/her sentiments as a struggling artist. It is really a sad fact that we people in the creative business find hard to make profit out of our talents. Young artists always find themselves hungry at the end of the day cause their works are always "underpaid". People think that it's an easy job for us and they even give a low the value for our work. However, we don't have anyone to blame but ourselves.

Artists are not business people and they can't even give a justifiable price for their works especially when they are just new in the business. They get excited when they get a job. They always think of the final output and forget about the whole amount of effort, time and skill required in the production. Once the final output is delivered, that's the time they give the price. Sometimes, they even make the client decide on how much they will pay. Soon, it becomes a routine and when they become tired and uninspired, they realize that they have done so much and still they don't have that much money.

I, myself, is a struggling artist. I value art so much that i can't give a price to my work. What I value is the client's satisfaction, amazement, happiness, trust and respect. Merging business in the creative industry let me realize how to balance money and work. This is the part where I consider myself as a DESIGNER. For me making art is a personal thing and no one can influence me on what issue to tackle, what colors to choose or how my artwork will look. A true work of art is one that I created by expressing myself as an artist. But unlike artists, designers always consider a lot of factors in creating a work: the budget, time frame, the ideas of the client, your own ideas, the target audience, resources, and a lot more. A designer has a good balance of artistry and business, may it be a graphic designer, fashion designer, interior designer, etc. It's not always easy to learn the business side but when you are committed, you learn how to live without the regrets of wasting your effort and time.

Some say designers are not artists and i think it's their opinion. For me, as a designer I am also an artist because I have the talent and skill in creating a beautiful image. It doesn't matter what technique or medium you use or how expensive your materials are. What matters most is that you are capable of delivering your client's vision without being hungry at the end of the day : ) Just sayin'

Twilight-inspired Photoshoot

[CREATIVE ASYLUM] by Seed Interactive sponsored this year's Mr and Miss AMA Zamboanga 2011. We had a photoshoot at Melin's Resort (AMR) to determine who among the candidates register best in photos. The theme for the photoshoot is very typical, Twilight (Vampire/Werewolf). At first it was hard to find a location since it was a resort. Good thing there was this old clock and nice chair in a building which is still under construction. It was just fitting for the theme so made a set out of them. The background was just composited to give it a more gothic look. The batch of candidates are pretty much good-looking and I think it's gonna be a tough competition. My Epic Dream

Here's a post about my dream a while ago. I wanna go straight to the epic part. So i was swimming in a calm lake with few unknown people around me. Out of nowhere there was a weird loud sound of a monster that echoed throughout the lake. From the other side of the lake there were also people swimming and they also heard the sound. Everyone was amazed and we even cheered and clapped.

As i was looking around, a whale breached out of the lake, dived on its back, and plunged back down to the waters. I can clearly remember the figure of the whale. It was dark grey in color, have bumps on the surface and it was not that big. It was a baby humpback whale. I remember that i was in shallow waters as we heard the loud sound, and when the whale jumped, i saw in deep waters and the creature swam underneath me. It kinda freaked me out, who wouldn't? I saw the whale glide underneath me and felt its bumps with my feet for a moment. The feeling was a mixture of calm, amazement, anxiety and fear. Then it went back towards me and eventually engulfed me. I can't remember how it happened but there was a story spreading around the place that day about the boy who was engulfed by the lake whale and survived by ripping through the its stomach..haha. epic!

At last, i have my first ever party to plan. Together with my partner in creative stuff, Wella, my cousin, we will create a themed party for my father's 50th birthday thanksgiving. It is also a double celebration for my parent's Silver (25th) Wedding anniversary. It will be held at Zalo's Restaurant and Bar on November 19, 2011. Just wanna share this recent photo of mine that i edited for my profile pic :D. This was taken just a while ago after the prenup video shoot at the boulevard. I overlayed lines from one of my recent favorite song which is an old song that i rediscovered lately. I got them from Goo goo doll's song I'm Still here, from the soundtrack of the animated film, Treasure Planet. I came across this song as I was researching for inspiration for a project. The lines perfectly fit how i feel and the message is beautiful. Hit the like button if u do.. :D

It is said that weddings are made for women. The bride is the star of the show and all eyes are on her. That is why every bride wants to stand out. For that one special day of their existence, she is the most beautiful in the world. The most essential part of her look is her wedding gown. Traditionally, a wedding gown is a white gown, with or without beadworks and/or a long train. But today with the influence of contemporary fashion, they can be in other colors, styles, and silhouettes, but still having that sense of elegance and sophistication. However, here in Zamboanga, brides do not have such freedom of choice due to religious and traditional rules.

Since wedding is such a money-gaining industry, wedding gown making is a must-have skill for fashion designers. The fashion industry in Zamboanga is a big industry compared to other cities in Mindanao. They are producing creative young designers led by the pioneers who are very supportive to honing these young talents. Some of them have formal education in fashion schools in Manila while others have a little training, if not, self-taught. I can say that Zamboanga designers are at par with the level of creativity, talent and skills of those in the metro. They always join events and competitions requiring their skills in dress-making like the one of a kind Mascota competition, fashion shows, modeling search, and beauty pageants both local and national. Designers from Davao even know some designers here and are really impressed by their works.

Zamboanga Hermosa 2011 Photo Story

This year I had the opportunity to shoot during the street dance parade for our city's Hermosa Festival. It is one of the highlights of the fiesta where students are on their colorful outfits, joyously dancing to the lively beat. Even though the weather is gloomy, the vibrant array of graceful dancers paying tribute to the miraculous shrine of La Virgen del Pilar. Every movement and detail tells different stories about our city and every story is of great significance in our existence today. Along side the street dancers are huge floats made of flowers depicting the beautiful scapes and sceneries that Zamboanga is truly proud of. Here are some of my photos of the said event together with some story about Zamboanga.

Colores y Bailes. A festival without colors is like a flower without fragrance. Colors and Dances come together to show our celebration of life. Hermosa means "beauty", and this festival is all about the beauty. The beauty of our city, its culture, people and heritage.

Adelante. The war cry of Zamboanga which means "to go forward". Amidst all the negative image of the city, together we move forward and push through all the obstacles and become frontliners of peace and development. We do it with the guidance of our faith and harmony amongst our brothers and sisters.

Bellas y Personas. What makes Zamboanga special is the diversity of its culture and people. It is the melting pot of Western Mindanao where people live together in harmony despite of differences in customs and beliefs. We believe that respect begets respect, and love begets love (amor con amor se paga).

Hardin de Flores. Zamboanga was once dubbed as the City of Flowers. Accordingly, the place grew the most number of species of endemic flowers, the most biodiverse in the region. Before it became Zamboanga, Subanons were the first settlers of this ancient place called Jambangan ("Flowers arraged in a Vase"). In the early years of Zamboanga as a city, the streets were once filled with bougainvillea vines and the plaza were filled with a kaleidoscope of floral life.

La Abundancia del Mar. Zamboanga is also known as the Sardines capital with 8 out of 11 sardines companies located in the region. The seas of Zamboanga are rich with natural resources such as seaweeds and aquatic life. Aside from the food that it supplies, it also supports livelihood among the people sustaining almost 20,000 workers in this industry alone.

Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar. The gloomy weather cannot stop the people from shouting out these phrases. Zamboanga's patronness, our Lady of the Pillar, was introduced during the establishment of the Real Fuerza del San Jose in 1635, built during the Spanish period. Hermosa Festival is one of the oldest festival in the country.

La Herencia Latina. Zamboanga is known to be Asia's Latin City for its highly influenced hispanic roots. During the building of the fort, Zamboanga had a transformation. The Spaniards introduced Christianity to the locals. They also learned to speak spanish and therefore creating a creole language known as Chabacano de Zamboanga. The Latin heritage can also be seen in the architecture, food, clothing, music, dance and more.

Mariposa. Where there are flowers, there are butterlflies. A Butterfly is a symbol of transformation and beauty. Like flowers, they come in different colors and sizes. They both represent the Hermosa festival which is a festival of the celebration the beauty of life. Zamboanga is like a butterfly undergoing metamorphosis adapting to change and developing into a better beautiful place to live in.

Vamos a Zamboanga! Let us not be ignorant about the rich culture that Zamboanga has to offer. It is a peaceful place that is worthy of recognition and many people missed its wonderful festivities. There are places to be visited, delicacies to be tasted, music to be heard, sceneries to be seen, stories to be heard and experiences just waiting for you to be discovered.

Touching Tales: They All Have Feelings

Hi guys! I'm introducing a new series of post not related to my field of work but worth sharing. These are famous stories shared all over the world to spread the wonderful side of life. These are touching tales from different people all over the world connected together through social platforms like facebook and tumbler.

A mother tiger lost her cubs due to premature labour. Shortly after, she became depressed and her health declined. She was later diagnosed with depression. Since tigers are endangered, every effort was made to secure her health. Zoologists wrapped piglets up in tiger-print cloth, and presented them to the mother tiger. She now loves these piglets and treats them like her own. And needless to mention, her health is back on track. ♥

Yes, they ALL have feelings....just like we do. And yes, their feelings ought to be respected. They shouldn’t have to suffer because of our ignorance and ego.

"Les Mannequins" Fashion Film

Seed Interactive and Top Model Search has once again raised fashion and modeling in Zamboanga a notch higher. We are pushing the models in their fullest potiential, giving them a taste of what the fashion industry is really like. This year, they are not only exposed in photoshoots and runway training, they were also tested with their ability to move in front of the camera, taking directions while remaining their model composure.

We had a simple video shoot of the models that will be used for the opening billboard (OBB), the video that will be shown at the start of the show to give a sneak peek of the models. Aside from the OBB, we also had a video shoot of last year's winner of Top Model in a fashion film or "motion editorial". Just imagine the pages of the magazine as a moving picture. A motion editorial is basically a montage of videos put together to convey images of fashion though posing and acting out emotions while having a consistent theme all throughout the video. It is a first in Zamboanga and perhaps, in Mindanao or Philippines. There were six winners (3 guys and 3 girls) but only five of them showed up in the shoot. The idea of making the video was came up weeks before the show so we had to rush everything. We didn't have a script or storyboard but we had a concept in mind. The show will be having three exposures: the Production in their bad boy/girl look; the Swimwear (good boy/girl look); and the Formal Couture which is nature inspired. We used the three themes as our basis in making the film.

For the girls, we just told them and their designers to show up in the location with their makeup on and bring a couple of dresses (inpired by nature or whatever they want to showcase). Their fashion designers (Mandrake, Altom and Federico) were so nice to support our production and provided the beautiful gowns. For the guys, we borrowed some jackets and coats from Sir Bondoc and mixed and match some of our accesories. My sneakers even had a special appearance. :D We had the shoot accomplished in a matter of days then it was all up to me. It is a challenge to patch them all the pieces together and come up with one cohesive film.

Time was ticking so fast that I only had 24 hours to edit the video. I stayed uplate in the office, had a short nap and continued editing non-stop the rest of the day. I finished editing 8PM and the show will start already. I'm still at the office and I have to go home, eat dinner, and take a bath while rendering the video. I went to Astoria Plaza via tricycle with my laptop in my hands still rendering the video. Good thing the show hasn't started yet. I thought I missed the showing of the OBB because i'm 30 minutes late. But as expected, the show started an hour late.

The show started with the OBB, and it was really heart-pounding to see our video on that huge screen. It was epic and the audience liked it (based on their reaction). But a bigger, epic failure happened afterwards.. DEAD AIR. The mood has been established and the crowd has been pumped up but nothing followed afterwards so the momentum went down again. It was such a waste. The OBB was supposed to be the signal of the start of the show but that dead air killed it. Everybody was like looking at us expecting another video or whatever. It was an embarassment.

Anyways, that's just the downside of it. I'm happy on how the show was done and the candidates were at their best. They performed like pro's (most of them). Before the final walk of the past winners, the fashion film was played and im really happy with all the feedbacks we received. I enjoyed the creations of the designers and i am happy with the results.

Happy Fiesta Hermosa, Zamboanga!

Just wanna greet every Zamboangueno a happy fiesta! I'm not Catholic but i want to share the spirit of the festival to commemorate the diverse culture in Zamboanga, its rich heritage, and harmonious community. The past years we have been celebrating a peaceful fiesta. But it is sad to hear that recently, two separate bombings occured in two barangays of the city. Let's pray for the victims who were injured and hope that it wont happen again. We should always remember the essence of the festival, which is the religious aspect. Godbless Zamboanga!

2011 Top Model Search Zamboanga

For the second consecutive year, Seed Interactive Multimedia Production sponsored this year's Top Model Search Zamboanga. The show is now on its 18th Year and have been producing top models for runway, commercials and prints. Top Model Search also produced beauty queens and artists making it to the national scene. This year's search had a huge make-over after last year's feedbacks. Taking them positively, the producer made huge improvements not only on the format of the show but also on how the candidates are being trained, mentored and molded into industry-standard models. Professional models came here to personally monitor the models on their walk and give important critiques to help them improve their skills. Anyways, here are the promotional posters of this year's search. There are too many sponsors so we divided them into three layouts.

The show was held at Astoria Plaza on October 8, 2011 in line with the celebration of the city's Hermosa festival. Aside from the posters, we also produced a lot of AVP's including an Opening Billboard (OBB), highlights of the sexy shorts and swim wear exposures, and the first ever Fashion Film in Zamboanga. Finger Print Secret

I never knew that finger prints can also show the type of person I am. I tried this facebook app that interprets your personality according to the pattern of your finger prints. There are two basic patterns, the circle and the wave. You will basically input the type of pattern of your fingers of your left hand (for guys) or right hand (for ladies). Mine was "WWWWW" which means all of the fingers of my left hand has the wave pattern. Then, just click publish, and voila! Here is my finger print secret, and it is shockingly true!

It says "This person is a straightforward (so true) honest person (most of the time) who goes with the flow (true!!!). The fingers indicate someone very sensitive (yup, i am emotional but not in public), who is especially suited to design and creative work (100% accurate). People with these fingerprint patterns tend to be shy (soooo true) and uncomfortable in social situations (*awkward* but true), so are not suited to work in PR, politics (well, i had some experience in politics but i knew it just wasn't my thing) or any kind of work requiring them to meet people (yeah, im not good at this)."

Nuay Etu, Nuay Mañana by Comic Relief Music Video

Comic Relief, known for their Chabacano serenade rock song "Cuando?", became Zamboanga's #1 radio band and gave rise to original Chabacano music. The first music video we made with their song is "Maria Ozawa." The title might remind you of some personality, but I bet you the music is really good. It is a courtship song inviting the girl to visit Zamboanga's famous places and explore its culture, people and food. The music video we made is a mix of live action and animation.

Anyways, here's the first fully animated music video for their song "Nuay Etu, Nuay Mañana."Synopsis: When your most beloved one leaves you, the shadows of the past will always haunt you. How can you fight the darkness within while feeling the pain at the same time?

They differ from one person to another but every dream gives us the sameexperience that makes us think they are real at that moment. It taps our sensesand digs out sorts of emotion like happiness, sorrow, joy, anxiety, fear, orbliss. They take us to places without the use of our feet. They give us vision withoutthe use of our eyes.

I have always been fascinated with dreams. Some dreams aresimple flashback of memories, while others are extreme, impossible and merelybizarre. Sometimes I write about these dreams and try to seek interpretations,hoping to discover a treasure that is buried in my subconscious. But sometimeswords aren’t enough so I try to doodle the remaining images in my memory from thedream.

For artists, dreams have become a source of inspiration. Ithas influenced the world of literature and art ever since. We can read it in the books of the Bible, inthe verses of Homer’s epics, in the novels of Stephen King and even in thesongs of Billy Joel and Beatles' Paul McCartney. Dreams also inspired visual artistslike Surrealist painter Salvador Dali, and film-makers like Christopher Nolanwho directed “Inception,” a sci-fi fiction action film about manipulating dreams. With the riseof cutting edge technology, these dreams can now be inspired to create otherforms such as computer graphics, digital film and music, and animation (may itbe in 2D or 3D form). All of these are not possible without man’s determinationto understand, recreate, and share the magical experience of dreams.

Of all the different forms, Animation may be one of the mostchallenging to create. It uses all the other elements from the other forms: theaesthetics of visual arts, the technicalities of film-making, and the storytelling of literature. And to celebrate the wonderful world of Animation, Animahenasyon is here to gather everyFilipino animators and talents to showcase their works. For years, thePhilippine Animation Festival helped gather, promote, hone, and recognizestudent and professional animators around the country.

As a budding animator, it is also my dream to be recognizedin Animahenasyon. Last 2009, my classproject, a stop-motion short film, was fortunate to be one of the finalists. In2010, a new contest was opened, the poster design contest, and I grabbed theopportunity to participate. With God’s grace, my entry “AnimaDreams” was chosen as the official poster design for thisyear’s Animahenasyon. It is a DigitalIllustration created in Photoshop.

My design is inspired by a dream land where nature, humanityand technology coexist harmoniously. As a Mindanaoan, I incorporated artisticelements that I have been accustomed while growing up in a place known as a meltingpot of culture. The background is a pattern inspired by ukkil, the art of carving of the Sulu Archipelago. You can also seethe famous vinta of Zamboanga and a woventurung dulang used as the geometric headpiecefor the iconic figure. The head, representing the talented and creativeFilipino, is in a form of a detailed futuristic luminous tree. It also symbolizesthe innovative, forward-thinking, and brilliant mind of Filipinos.

Aside fromculture and technology, nature is also a vital source of my inspiration. The creaturesare sci-fi glowing versions of bizarre organisms that do exist in reality. Theygive color to our environment, make it a livelier place. And together with these creatures are twocharacters, a boy and a girl, joyously swinging in motion under the gianttrees. They are bare foot, one with nature, discovering the fantastic world ofdreams.

Like my artwork, Animahenasyon is a festive place wheredreams come alive. It’s a place where each and every talent collaborate tocreate animation, a dynamic form of medium used to express visions and tellstories. Animation is a product of our endless desire to make dreams a reality.Though dreams are mysteries rooted from the deepest, darkest corner of our psyche,it is but a mere extension of a bigger, brighter place that we can easilyaccess anytime, anywhere – our IMAGINATION.

This has to be one of the funnest SDE that we made for a Muslim Wedding. They were such a cool couple who also showed their soft side and affection for one another during the wedding. They live in Cebu and decided to have their civil and traditional Muslim wedding here in Zamboanga. Some of the clips were shot during the prenup at Acapulco Beach Resort. Enjoy!

Marejada 09: The cover that didn't make it

Look what i found in my archive of works. It is the initial concept cover for Marejada 2009. Marejada is the literary folio of Ateneo de Zamboanga University under its official publicaiton, Beacon Newsmagazine. It is a collection of peoms, short stories, and artworks revolving on a certain theme such as "Memories", "7 Deadly Sins" or "Back to Basics". For 2009, the theme was "?" which was really unique. This was my last third and last time to be the creative director and layout artist for marejada. For the cover, we want to incorporate a sense of wonder, curiosity and imagination with the design. We had a photoshoot with three models that was used as digital art for the dividers. This particular photo gave me an idea for the cover. I really wanted to use cool and dark colors that reminds us of space or the deep blue ocean. As you can see the girl doesn't have an eye which i intended to give it a surreal feel. It also symbolizes our blindness about the truth, thus, sparking curiosity which leads to discovery. She is holding a light bulb which is a typical symbol for an idea or knowledge. We intentionally excluded the name of the book "Marejada" in the front cover to add more curiosity. Instead, we just used "M" that blends with the smoke.

However, there was an issue raised about this design. Accordingly, it is to feministic and they don't want a person to represent Marejada. I still want to stick with the "M" with the smokes and the color scheme so i just made few revisions. I replaced the photo of the girl with objects and symbols randomly floating in space inspired by surreal artist Salvador Dali's painting "The Persistence of Memory." We are all happy with the final design and it was aleready approved for printing. We are really pushing the boundaries for this folio since it is the last year for most of the staff. Instead of the usual glossy paper and matte cover, we had it printed in book paper but in hard bound matte cover. It is was the most ambitious and complicated folio we ever made in Beacon. Aside from the vague cover, we also deviated on how we arranged the contents. Usually, it is divided into three groups: poems, short stories, artworks. We also also want to give a story by using the order of the entries. We grouped them into four categories: Wonder, Confusion, Dream and Inspiration. It was well-conceptualized and all our creative plans were realized. Thanks to our ever-supportive and genius EIC, Ate Maimai, our collaborators, the writers and artists who contributed their masterpieces published in this folio. I really miss doing stuff like this and i won't ever forget my beacon years :') Here's the final covers together with the spine.

Underwater Prenup Photography

This is our first ever underwater prenup photoshoot. Because of my ability to sink and hold my breath underwater, i was the one who shot these. At first we had the photoshoot at the beach. However, we find it really difficult to produce great shots due to poor visibility. It was almost 6PM so were losing precious light and to add to that challenge, we have to endure the cold wind, strong waves, rocky ground, and the salty water that makes it harder for us to sink and open our eyes under water. It's my first time to use the camera and i have to be creative in making the shot. The initial photos were kind of a disaster.

And because of that, we learned that we really have to schedule another photoshoot. We went to Garden Orchid Hotel, which will be the venue of their reception, and had the photoshoot session at their pool. We started almost 11AM and the sun was shining brightly above us. We have good weather and nice lighting. The water was not as pure as i expected but it was way better than the sea. In this setup, our eyes and feet don't have to suffer anymore. We can fully control the environment and we have so much time to produce creative shots.

By the way, the camera was provided by the couple since we dont have an underwater camera or a waterproof case for our DSLR camera. The underwater camera we used is an HD point and shoot Fuji FinePix.The photos came out okay but because of the color of the water, the photos were very bluish/cyanic. But no worries, we have photoshop and lightroom to enhance them. :D I really like the ethereal quality of the underwater photography. I love how the way the cloth flows and the body seems to be weightless and so relaxed. All in all, It was such a fun and productive shoot. There are so much things that can be improved but i learned so much in this shoot.

Here are seven important things to consider if you want to try underwater photography. 1. Location: The best location is a clean, freshly-filled pool. No chlorine, if possible. 2. Light: More light means better picture. If you want natural light, the best time is 10AM-2PM. If you want a black background, use artificial lights. 3. Protection: Protect you eyes by using goggles. If you can afford, rent scuba gears to breathe underwater. 4. Peg: Prepare your pegs so the client/subject/model will have an idea on how to pose and project. Have an assistant to show the pegs once in a while. 5. Prepare Physically: Be sure you know how to swim. At first, it will be very difficult trying to sink and hold your breathe underwater so do some breathing exercises before shooting. Be aware of your surrounding and don't force yourself to stay underwater for too long. We don't want to drown, right? 6. Be creative: Use props, modify the setting, and prepare different outfits to have a wide variety of shots. 7. Have fun :D

Hollywood Inspired Wedding Album

Here's the layout of the coffee table book of Erwin and Cathlean who had "Oscar Awards Night" as their concept for their wedding. Instead of the usual prenup, we made posters of famous movies with the two of them as the main character like Titanic, Twilight, My Sassy Girl and more. We also produced a trailer which is a montage of the different movies. You can see the movie posters here and the tailer here.

I had a lot of ideas for this layout. For the cover, i made a vintage projection of their "wedding movie". The prenup movie posters were placed in a gallery of the Oscars Hall of Fame. For the wedding ceremony, i went for my standard layout. For the reception, i designed it as a Red Carpet event in Hollywood and in the end, you can see the critics section and of course the credits.
