Carlos and Elaine SDE

The Trebor Z Team just had our first back to back wedding coverage. We split the team into two groups and covered two separate weddings simultaneously with SDE's. My group covered a Catholic wedding and the other group had an Christian (Alliance) wedding. At the end of the day, we were successful in delivering our videos and it's really a sign that we are ready for to accomodate two events in a day. This is important because December is coming and it's the peak season of weddings and events.

Anyways, here's the SDE of our couple, Carlos and Elaine. This couple lives in US and decided to get married in the bride's hometown. Carlos is Latino living in US and it's his first time to visit the Elaine's family here in the Philippines. The music that is used in the video is Lauryn Hill's RnB version of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", which is their theme song. To add some modern edge, I used another upbeat song, Eyes by Kaskade. The couple were surprised when they saw the SDE. They thanked us personally and said that they didn't expect the video would be done so quickly. The bride was so touched with the effort the groom did in the first part of the video. Anyways, look into this video and see how cool this couple is. :D

Abdil and Dincy SDE

Here's another beautiful couple all the way from Dubai bound to tie the knot here in Zamboanga. Abdil and Dincy had their "Pagkawin" or traditional Muslim wedding rites at the bride's home and in the afternoon they had their "Nikah" at Astoria Plaza.

Logo Design: Tea.gre Milk Tea

This is my latest branding project for an upcoming business in Manila. I was asked to do a logo for a new Milk Tea business offering authentic taiwanese milk tea. The name is "Tea.gre" and the idea is to put some tiger feel on it. I started with my research on the existing milk tea brands and here are some of them.

I observed that there are four main themes in milk tea logos. First, is the tea leaf, which of course, symbolize the tea element of the product. Second, is the informal/creative use of typography. Since its a food business, the fonts used are not too formal, very readable and fun to look at. Third, is the use of secondary vibrant colors. Aside from green as the common color representing tea, they used another vibrant color such as pink, purple or orange to add a pop of color into the logo.

Lastly, I noticed that they also incorporated the "cuteness" factor which reminds us of K-Pop and Chibi characters of the animes. It gives the feel of a foreign product (like it came from an East-Asian country). This is a very important element to attract customers of all ages. With these key factors in designing a logo for a milk tea business, i came up with these three studies which i presented to the client.

I started with three different logo styles in my initial design. The first study has a tiger character into it with its body transitioning into a tea leaf. The font that I used reminds me of eastern calligraphy yet the rough edges of the outlines gives the logo a safari feel. The second study is more abstract. The graphic in the logo in the shape of the leaf can also be seen as a top view of tiger. The font that i used also looks like brush stokes and the pattern also has a safari feel in it. The third study is a typographic logo with round and bubbly edges. The tail of the "g" is designed to look like a tiger's tail.

And so, I emailed the studies and here's the feedback. They really liked the tiger character with the tea leaf concept. However, they thought that the tiger character is not that "appealing". So they requested for another character design. They also want to incorporate the typography of the third study but with another font style. So, here are my revised font choices and character design.

I explored more font styles in this one. Personally i like the original one that i did. If not, the second from the right. :D

These are three character studies of the Tiger. I made the tiger look like its holding and drinking milk tea. I made variations with the ear, nose and eye shapes. They chose the first character design. The next revision is to make it a round logo "like Starbucks". After another set of redesigning, here are my round logo proposals.

I stayed with the three main colors: brown, orange and green. I used different combinations of fonts, type placing and colors. Finally, the logo that they chose is first one in the second row. But it doesn't stop there. They also requested to change "Milk Tea" to "Authentic Taiwanese Milk Tea". It's a pretty lengthy addition to the design so i really have to make a way to balance it. And so, here are my proposals.

I placed the new text below Teagre. I also proposed to put chinese characters of milk and tea so that the spaces where Milk and Tea used to be will be occupied. They chose the last one with the thinner sub text below. However, they preferred to remove the chinese characters. Finally, here's the official logo of Teagre. I also rendered it in a milk tea cup so you can see how it looks like in the final product.

So what do you think about the final logo? Let's analyze it based on the four elements that I mentioned above. First, does it have the tea leaf? Yes. Second, is the font creative/quirky? Not really, but its readable. I think this is the weakest part of the design. I hope that they chose a more creative font style. Third, is there a secondary color? Yes, Orange. And fourth, does it have the cuteness factor? Yes! :3

I really hope I gave the client a logo that they desire. I did my best to cater every requests to come up with an effective design. Logo design is a very long process of research, design, and redesign. A lot of factor and elements should be considered and incorporated but its our job to lay them out and make sure it is a balanced and harmonious design. Personally, i have different preferences about the design but the client has the final word. At the end of the they, client satisfaction is the most important. :D

Sta Cruz Island Photo Walk

sta cruz island zamboanga city photo walk photography Sta Cruz Island is such a beautiful place that Zamboanga should really be proud of. The pink sand, the sun, and blue waters make it a paradise away from home. After a day of fun, we decided to walk to the eastern part of the beach where lies a burial site of the early settlers of the island. It was so surreal looking at the little carved boats and human figures. These photos were taken with a Samsung SII phone. :)

Rofel and Roree SDE

God will make a way to make two hearts meet when they're meant for each other. He created people with a better half and someday they will find it and share one love. Rofel and Roree were destined to be together and in this special day, they chose to fulfill God's plan. Rofel is a handsome groom. And from the message that he gave to his bride, it looks like he knows it too. Roree at her most special day of her life, was very thankful for everyone who made her feel so much loved. Her walk along the aisle was tear-jerking and the groom can't hide his feelings on that very special moment. Check out the highlights of Rofel and Roree's wedding below.

My first Daily Deviation

DeviantArt.com has been my source of inspiration and way to share my artworks online. It keeps me updated with the latest styles, designs and works of art of different
kinds of artist, from traditional to digital artists. I also get my resources there like brushes, shapes, patterns, textures, and stock images which are free. The only rule is to credit the owner once you will post your work using their resources. I've been a member of the site for five years already and there were just few members back then. I have posted many works and the best thing are the comments of people around the world. Some comments are harshly negative but most are appreciative and constructive.

Now, the site has become a social network where people can be friends and exchange critiques and join activities such as polls, contest and exchanging of llama badges. Awesome, right? Being a member, there are also ranks, from being an ordinary member to a  premium member, to super administrator and gallery moderators. But for most members, the biggest accomplishment is the recognition of your works. The number of faves, pageviews and comments are usually the basis to see the status of your gallery or art work. Everyday, the administrators choose a set of outstanding works and feature it in a special gallery called the "Daily Deviation". If you want to be inspired everyday but you have limited time, this is the place to go.

Recently, i posted my poster design for a contest called Animahenasyon 2013, the Philippine Animation Festival. It's a steampunk-themed poster named "The Engine of Perpetual Motion". My friend, Jude, who also joined the contest, is a very active member of the site and suggested it to be a part of the daily deviation for October 7, 2012. And fortunately, it was accepted! I just had my first daily deviation in 5 years and im really happy to have this recognition. :D We're still waiting for the results of the poster design contest which will be announced on the closing program in this year's festival. I'll be goin there with my fellow Ateneans who are joining the Animation contests.

Thanks again to Jude ^JCROXAS and ^princepal for the DD!
