Summer Na Zamboanga 2017 Call for Entries

Summer is around the corner! The City Government of Zamboanga has once again prepared these exciting competitions for the Zamboangueños to enjoy this summer. Submission of entries is now open to these five contests: Mi Ciudad de Zamboanga Photo Contest, Mural Painting Competition, Zamboanga Hiphop Dance Competition, Dia de Vicente Alvarez Neo-Ethnic Dance Competition and the Festival de las Bellas y Flores. Check out the description of the competitions below.

Now on its second year, the Mi Ciudad de Zamboanga Photo Contest is looking for snapshots of Zamboanga: landmarks, food, symbols, and most importantly, its people. The theme is "I Love Zamboanga City" where photographers should capture what they love most about this city. Each photographer can submit at most 3 entries, and photos should be taken not earlier than January 1, 2017. Submit your entries on or before April 19, 2017, 5PM at the Public Information Office, City Hall Annex. All entries will be posted in the Facebook page of Zamboanga Hermosa Festival which is up for public voting. All photos will be on display during the Dia de Ma'am Caling on April 26 at the Jardin Maria Clara, where the awarding ceremonies will be held. Here are the prizes: 1st Place - P7,000; 2nd Place - P5,000; 3rd Place - P3,000; Voters' Choice - P1,000; and the other top 10 entries will receive P1,000 each. Last year, we had the Chalk Art Competition. This year, we decided to raise the bar higher by making it a Mural Painting Competition. Fifteen (15) teams consisting of five (5) members each will create their piece in 4x8 feet of canvas using acrylic paints. This is also a collaborative project. All panels have a pre-designed template which the competing entries should strictly follow. The final artworks will be displayed side by side and it will reveal a bigger picture featuring the symbols of Zamboanga. This will take place at the Jardin Maria Clara on April 24-26, 2017. The Zamboanga Hiphop Competition is now on its 3rd year will challenge dance crews to incorporate magic tricks and illusions in their routine. There are three categories: Junior (elementary students), Crew (mixed age, 5-12 members) and Mega Crew (13-40 members). Final Registration and Orientation is on April 28, 2017 (Friday) 1PM, Public Information Office, 2F City Hall Annex. Competition Proper: May 13, 2017 (Saturday), 1PM, at the City Coliseum. In line with the commemoration of Dia de Gen. Vicente Alvarez, the Neo-Ethnic Dance Competition showcase of neo-modified modern contemporary dances, depicting the culture they want to represent: Yakan, Subanen, Tausug, Sama, or Badjao. There will be three major winners in this competition that will receive a cash prize: 1st prize — ₱10,000; 2nd prize — ₱8,000; 3rd prize — ₱5,000; while non-winning teams will receive ₱2,000. Festival de las Bellas y Flores is Zamboanga's version of Flores de Mayo. It's a parade of Pretty Señoritas in designer Gowns and accentuated by ornate Arcos. This year's theme is "Los Elementos" where entries must incorporate at least one of these elements in their designs: Fire🔥, Water🌊, Earth🌱, Wind🌬, Ice☃, Wood🚪 and Metal🔗. The parade will happen on May 20, Saturday, from City Fire Station to Centro Latino, Paseo del Mar. 1.
